Smoke

Historically smoke from the burning of fossil fuels in businesses and homes have given rise to widespread pollution problems resulting in the famous smogs of the 1950's. This problem has largely receded since the 1970's with the advent of cheap natural gas. However in recent times there has been a resurgence in the use of fossil fuels through the introduction of wood burners in domestic premises and the installation of biomass boilers in commercial and industrial premises. There has also been a increase in the burning of domestic coal due to the rise in the cost of gas and oil over recent years.
