Two neglected Lurchers strayed in separate incidents

Two black Lurchers have been found across Worcestershire

Worcestershire Regulatory Services’ Dog Warden team have seized two abandoned Lurchers as strays over a two-week period.

Enid was found in the Worcester area, she was underweight and had bad sarcoptic mange (scabies) causing her skin to itch and become sore.

Whilst under the Dog Warden’s care, the dog has put on two kilograms of weight and her mange has been treated, showing how simple treatments and hearty meals can make a difference to a dog’s quality of life.

Sparrow, a male Lurcher, was found in the Wyre Forest area with a horrific, gaping wound.

The injury was clearly old, and the council service paid for emergency treatment provided by two vets. The wound had to be stitched up and the area around it was debrided due to the risk of infection.
Fortunately, in this case, Sparrow’s recovery is going well.

Speaking on the neglectful conditions the dogs were found in, Senior Dog Warden Pip Griffin, stated: “It is upsetting that in 2025 basic care is not being provided to so many of the dogs we have coming in as strays.

“For Enid, if a simple spot-on treatment had been administered and was fed decent meals and if Sparrow had been taken to see a vet sooner these upsetting circumstances could have been avoided.

“It is becoming unbearable to see strays ending up with numerous injuries and ailments that owners are not addressing.”
