Not received your Taxi Licence Plates or Driver Licence Badge?

We often receive requests for replacement licence plates and driver licence badges shortly after they have been issued. In many cases, this is because the original item is still delayed in the post.

While we understand that postal delays can be frustrating, issuing replacement items too quickly increases the risk of duplicate licence plates or driver licence badges being in circulation.

For this reason, and to allow enough time for posted items to arrive, replacement vehicle licence plates or driver licence badges will not be issued until at least seven days have passed from the date the original items were recorded as having been printed and posted.

Requesting a replacement

If you want to request replacement licence plates or badge, you must submit a written request for replacement items. Your request must confirm all of the following:

  • that the original licence plates or driver licence badge have not been received;

  • that if the original items arrive either before or after replacement items are issued, you will:

    • return the replacement items to the licensing office, or

    • provide photographic evidence that the replacement items have been destroyed; and

  • the full postal address that the replacement items should be sent to.

Requests that do not include this confirmation may delay the issue of replacement items.

Once we have received your written request and the seven-day period has passed, we will be able to consider issuing replacement licence plates or driver licence badges.

Example wording for a replacement request

You may use the wording below when submitting your request:

I wish to request replacement taxi licence items for:

• vehicle registration: [INSERT VEHICLE REGISTRATION] (if applicable)
• driver name: [INSERT DRIVER NAME] (if applicable)
• licence number: [INSERT LICENCE NUMBER]

I confirm that I have not received my licence plates and/or driver licence badge. I understand and accept that replacement items will not be issued until at least seven days have passed from the date the original items were recorded as having been printed and posted.

The replacement items should be sent to the following address:
[INSERT FULL POSTAL ADDRESS]

I understand that if the original licence plates or badge arrive either before or after replacement items are issued, I will return the replacement items to the licensing office or provide photographic evidence that they have been destroyed.

How to avoid delays in receiving your licence

The best way to avoid delays is to submit your renewal application early enough for it to be checked, processed, and issued before your current licence expires.

Licence holders are strongly encouraged to submit renewal applications in good time. This allows enough time for the application to be processed and for any licence plates or badges to be delivered.

Submitting your renewal early helps avoid unnecessary delays and reduces the need to request replacement items.
