Safety Advice for Mobile Food Stalls and Vehicles

We have a WRS guide that provides further information: Food Hygiene and Safety at Food Stalls and Marquees.

Outdoor food events are growing in popularity and there are many mobile traders who regularly travel to markets, major shows and music festivals. Many small businesses now choose to attend a range of events both locally and further afield, either by renting a stall or using their own mobile vehicle.

Whether you are a business or an event organiser the above guide will provide you with information on what you need to do to ensure that food and drink served at a market stall, mobile trailer or tented structure in Worcestershire is safe for your customers.

For those who trade outside the county please be aware that other Local Authorities may have additional requirements to be met.

Inspections

We do not visit all events but a number are checked during the year. Whether to visit is based on the potential risk, particularly size of event, whether it is new or well established and the number of visitors. WRS food officers are happy to work with event organisers pre-event and often call in a list of food and drink providers attending your event.

One Off Events

Small one off events, eg school fetes or fund raising barbecues are likely to be exempt from food registration but we strongly recommend you take the guidance into account to minimise risk of food poisoning. An outbreak of illness would lead to an investigation of how the organisers have controlled food safety. If volunteers are preparing food at home you should be giving advice to help them do it safely.
