Thinking about buying a cat or dog from abroad?


Make sure you know what you need to do before travelling with your pet.

YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ENSURING YOUR PET MEETS ALL THE RULES FOR ENTERING THE UK.

You must ensure that you have had all the procedures carried out in the correct order and your pet’s documentation must be completed correctly.

The Rules vary depending on the country you are travelling from.

Travelling to the UK from an EU member state and approved non-EU countries.

Your pet dog, cat or ferret must be micro-chipped, vaccinated against rabies (after the micro-chip application), and you must have a Pet Passport or Official Veterinary Health certificate.

Your dog, cat or ferret must also be treated for tape-worm 1-5 days before arriving in the UK and must then travel with an approved transport company via an authorised route.
